Sevenoaks is a commuter town surrounded by countryside, with the Knole estate on its doorstep and a lot of larger detached and semi-detached family homes. Further out, villages such as Otford, Kemsing, Seal and Ide Hill have older cottages and period houses, while Westerham and Edenbridge sit near the Surrey border.
Larger homes and whole-house cleans
Many Sevenoaks homes have a lot of carpet: several bedrooms, long landings and more than one staircase. Whole-house cleans are common, and they're usually best planned so that rooms can dry in turn while the household carries on. A cleaner will usually start upstairs and work down so nobody has to walk across freshly cleaned carpet.
These homes are also more likely to have wool carpets, good-quality rugs and upholstered furniture worth protecting. Our pages on rug cleaning and upholstery cleaning explain how different fibres and fabrics are handled.
Country homes, mud and dogs
Sevenoaks is surrounded by footpaths, woods and farmland, which means muddy boots and wet dogs. Mud is one of the easier things to get out of carpet, as long as it's allowed to dry and vacuumed first rather than rubbed while wet. Dog odour in carpets and on sofas is a regular request too. See stain and odour removal for how persistent pet smells are treated.
Lettings and offices
There's a smaller rental market than in the bigger towns, but plenty of executive lets and flats near the station. End of tenancy carpet cleaning is available, as is commercial cleaning for offices and shops in the town centre.
